  1. Given a choice, never play American roulette

Some people enjoy playing American roulette. The fact it has two Zeros seems to have some magical hold over them. The reality of the situation is, American roulette is just worse for the player. You’ll be losing twice as much money on every spin.

There is no big mystery here. The American roulette wheel has an extra number but same payouts like the European wheel. So, your odds of actually hitting your number are reduced, but the reward for getting lucky is precisely the same.

  1. Hot & cold numbers are an illusion

Most roulette wheels feature a statistics board. Here, you can see the recent numbers and, often, you’ll see what numbers are “hot” and what are not. This statistic is based on the number of times a particular number has landed in the last X spins (100, 200, etc.).

The truth is that this number means absolutely nothing. Feel free to play whatever numbers you want and disregard this information completely. Previous results have no bearing whatsoever on future spins. If 25 landed ten times in the last 50 turns, it is still just as likely to land on the next spin as any other number.

There are too many variables for any human to be able to spin the ball in a fashion where they know where it will stop. The ball bounces left and right all over the wheel and this is something a croupier can’t account for.
